Twitter API changes and the impact on the SIGMONDO App

Twitter API Changes

The tech industry has been buzzing since Elon Musk’s takeover of Twitter, which has brought several changes, some more visible than others. One of these changes, unfortunately, has already impacted our SIGMONDO standalone tvOS app, where it connects to Twitter. Twitter has decided to retire its Standard 1.1 API and transition to new access tiers, making all read-access to Tweets a commercial, paid-for API.

New Twitter API Pricing and Access

Starting at the “Basic access” tier for hobbyists, the new API pricing includes 10,000 searches/month, 50,000 POST/month, 2 app IDs, and Login with Twitter for $100/month. Further details regarding these changes can be found in Twitter’s official announcement. This shift has already resulted in SIGMONDO’s Twitter integration ceasing to function.

Impact on SIGMONDO App

We understand that many of our users may not be willing to pay $100/month for Twitter data access. Furthermore, the $100/month tier might not provide sufficient access for us to serve all our users’ tweets through a central application. We will continue to monitor Twitter’s announcements and reassess the options for SIGMONDO to utilize in the future. We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused.
